Valentine's has sort of taken on a new meaning for me. Back in high school, it was exciting .. Would someone send me flowers? Would a secret admirer drop a card in my locker? Who would it be?
Now, it's a little more predictable.
Yesterday, I called Al while he was with Gabe at the dentist.
"Where are you?" I asked.
"At a store," he said .
"Ohhhh ... tomorrow's Valentine's Day," I replied, " I can guess where you are," I said to my last-minute shopper.
And then, last night while Gabe and I were reading Valentine's books (again), I got further confirmation of my suspicions. On the last page of the book, Little Critter's mom had a huge bouquet of red roses.
"I got you flowers, too," Gabe said, with big, honest eyes. "Do you like pink flowers, because I got you pink flowers."
I tucked him in and chuckled all the way down the stairs. I told Al, knowing he'd appreciate that his Valentine conspirator couldn't keep a secret.
This morning, sure enough, pink roses showed up on my kitchen table, accompanied by cards from all of my Valentines (Gabe, Ada and Al).
I don't miss those high school Valentine's days ... I'd rather have my comfortable, predictable surprises any day.
And yes, munchkin, I do like pink roses.
